The Promise in a Rainbow

At this time of year, it is common for thunderstorms to pop up and bring high winds, heavy downpours, and dark skies. After these storms pass, a rainbow can often be seen somewhere in the sky above us. Such was the case on this day in July.
The above photo was taken by one of the people in recovery who is staying with us and was going through a difficult time. It shows the trailer where he and his wife are living next to the mobile home we are renovating. After he sent it to me, I was reminded that even though the way ahead may be dark, stormy, and cloudy, there is always the promise of God’s presence in the rainbow.
This summer, we have two couples staying with us on the farm who are in recovery and involved in the Drug Court program. It has been a blessing to get to know them and to hear their stories. They have been through some very stormy times, suffering under the bondage of addiction. They know that recovery is a day-to-day journey. Some days are clear and sunny, while others are dark and stormy. It has been great to meet with them regularly, discuss the day’s events, share the truths God is teaching us, and pray together. Even when they are having a hard day and fighting the battle, I remind them of the rainbow we often see in the sky on some stormy summer days. The promise in the rainbow is that God is with them, even when storms in life seem to be heavy.
What challenges are you facing today? Do they seem strong and overwhelming? Are you going through a ‘dark’ time in your life? Remember the rainbow God gives us. It is a promise of His abiding presence. Give Him thanks that He safely sees you through this day.
